Just watched someone who I KNOW is a wealthy man on the island act like he was putting cash in the Coffee Express Lane at Relish Cafe. Sad. It really does upset me when people try to steal from me. Yet, I know that God will only refund and vindicate me:
"No weapon forged against you will prevail, and you will refute every tongue that accuses you. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, and this is their vindication from me," declares the LORD." Isaiah 54:17 NIV.
Writing the real deal,
Rhonda G.

Every Penny Counts
One thing I Relish is counting my pennies.
I don't like numbers, but I do like saving money...so I count every penny.
Each time that I go to the grocery store and I want to impulse buy a box of $2.78 crackers (I love crackers) I don't. I remind myself that $2.78 x 4 weeks is almost $12, which can buy a nice lunch out with a friend. So I wait until I have a coupon or it is on my budgeted grocery list.
I am not the only one who counts every penny either. Did you know that Oprah used to take her lunch to work when running the Oprah show to save her pennies?
So even if you do - or do not - need extra money. It's simply wise to count pennies. They really do add up!
(As I write this, I really would love to be impulsive and get a Mani Pedi...but instead I am going to do my own nails and then use that money saved for a dinner out with my hubby:-)
Counting every penny,
Rhonda G.

Vinty Fashion Tip: Wearing Damaged Vintage!

Today's outfit:
Vintage Preppy Teacher!
This amazing 1980's vintage plaid blazer has a moth hole at the top...so I added a pin this morning to cover it up - now it isn't seen by my customers!
I often wear damaged vintage if I adore the item. Likewise, I've found that people tend to overlook imperfections on clothing. (And even if they do possibly see it - I still love wearing it anyway! :-)
Wear what you love! :-)

Today's Outfit

Why not wear vintage on a casual Wednesday? :-)
In this pic, I'm wearing comfy jeans (by Not Your Daughters Jeans), a t-shirt (thrifted), heels (from Naturalizer) and a 1960's vintage jacket from Relish (only $64.99, but now sold - to me:). I often sport a light jacket/coat as a blazer, instead of a sweater. It's way more fun!

The verdict...
The verdict is...I can't believe what happened!
I had recently sent some paperwork to AT&T proving they had been overcharging me...and they agreed they would credit my account. And they did indeed - over $400 more than I was owed!
(Did I mention I really want the iphone 4s?)
Nevertheless, I contacted them back to let them know that was too much of a credit.
So, I have decided to take my little credit, whilst being resourceful and indulge in the iphone 4! (That is if I can get time away from my store to actually go get it:-)
Thanks for your comments on Facebook and personal emails to me!

When you really want something...
I try to be resourceful most of the time...but then there are times I really want something! :-)
More so, given I do indeed clip coupons, plan meals to utilize all ingredients, cook a few meatless meals each week, dine in 6 days a week, entertain at home, pack my lunch most of the time, wash my own car (ok, my hubby does that), turn off the lights behind me, watch temperatures in the house, recycle, grow our own veggies and herbs in the garden and much more...it's ok for me to rationalize why I should definitely have something I really want...right? :-)
Yet, I have learned a valuable lesson over my 37 years: Make sure you really want it, before you buy it. So, that's what I'm doing today...really wanting something, yet being resourceful and thinking it through first to make sure I just don't want it today - and that I will want it tomorrow too.
P.S. It's the iphone 4 :-) I'm still using the very first iphone ever made!

Today's New Arrivals - Sequins & Sparkle!

I just brought in an armful of vintage fashions that sparkle!
As you may have seen on TV and on the runways, wearing a shiny top with jeans is very in vogue for Fall. So, today I'm wearing jeans with this black 1980's sequins and rhinestone blazer. (I was running late this morning, so I pulled my hair in a bun, threw on jeans with a tank and added this sparkly jacket = outfit done in a flash! :-)
More so, wearing vintage sequins is more resourceful than buying it new, which can have hefty price tags. Our sequins items range from $14 - $42 at Relish.
I hope everyone is having a great day!
See you tomorrow with our new arrival:-)

NEW TV Show: Re-claimed Fashions Are Really in Style!
One of the most frequent questions that I receive is, "Where do you find all of these amazing vintage and name brand items?" The answer is: I have great sources where I buy from them in bulk.
Likewise, very similar to the NEW BRAVO TV SHOW, Fashion
Hunters, I do a lot of picking and hunting at large auctions and sales too.
What I love most about their new TV show is that it brings recycling designer brands to light. More so, it reveals how in style it is to purchase re-claimed items. As you may know, we sell re-claimed name brands along with our vintage finds at Relish, given I truly respect the original owner of a garment who donates or sells their quality item by recycling it to the marketplace. A shopper can now re-claim that item at a fraction of the cost!
So if you're in the area, come check out Relish's Re-claimed Clothing. We have a
whole room loaded with Fall designer brands!

Living Resourcefully - Everyday.

A little something personal...
I live resourcefully everyday: I make a lot of my own clothing, often pack my lunch, turn the lights off when exiting a room and one of the most obvious is that I drive an old car. (It's paid off, so I'm vowing that I won't buy a new one until absolutely necessary:-).
I believe a lot of Americans are beginning to be more resourceful too. Keeping up with the Jones' is now often looked upon as showy and a waste of time.
Likewise, the people I respect the most aren't in the spot light or have powerful social standings. My list of mentors consists of average Americans who have saved smart, worked hard and are happy without social climbing. They're real people.
One of my favorite Bible scriptures teaches on this: "Make it your ambition to lead a quiet life, to mind your own business and to work with your hands..." ~Thessalonians 4:11
I ponder on this scripture almost everyday, given it is exactly how my mentors have lived. They were happy on the way to getting what they wanted, without being spiteful, superficial or in debt.
At the same time, do I indulge in things? Of course. Yet, I do so resourcefully.
Resourceful Tid Bit: One creative guilty pleasure is that we save a little each month and go out one (1) time to a decadent meal. So we skip the average take-out joint or common venue on a weekly basis and instead make reservations at a fabulous restaurant every month. So rather than visiting Joe's Pasta Place - we save for the Beach Bistro!
I didn't always live like this - I've learned the error of my ways. I believe the same rings true for many others too. Thus, why I opened Relish, "Where Being Resourceful is Always in Style," because it truly feels great when selecting a thoughtful gift, going out in a stylish outfit or entertaining at home - when it's creative, affordable and resourceful.
Just a little something personal for this blog post:-)

NEW TODAY: Recycled. Repurposed. Refashioned!

Here's one of the pieces from my New Upcycled Clothing Collection that will be revealed when we reopen October 1st:
The first life this shirt had was...very ugly! (Really ugly:)
As of today:
- It has short sleeves
- A modern cut
- Perfect length hem
- And hand-embellished (with lots of love and time:) along with authentic vintage lace, buttons and a jewel.
Now it's fit for a queen! And in a real girl size!!! (Thank you Jessica Chaplinsky for the real girl sewing form)!
Upcycled clothing is a fashion forward trend for fall - especially for those of us who relish in resourcefulness and one-of-a-kind style. Likewise, upcycled fashions like this shirt are carried at Bergdorf Goodmans, Barneys and many other high-end retailers...but you don't have to go to the mall, you can come shop at Relish to grab yourself a one-of-a-kind fabulous frock:-)
Thank you to everyone who shops at Relish. Hope to see you at the store and online October 1st!
Dedicated to you relishing in resourcefulness,
Rhonda G.

Hot this Fall - Especially in Vintage!

It's on the runways, coming to stores and most importantly - you can find it at Relish in vintage...
Sequins!
The current issue of Cosmo states we should all be wearing sequins this fall, "...for a night out or a sequined tank with jeans in broad daylight."
Here's a pic of me earlier this year at a book signing wearing my 1980's sequins top with jeans.
My helpful hint: I always go to sequins when I'm not in the mood to style an outfit or I don't know what to wear out to dinner. I truly believe you can have on some just-okay makeup, so-so hair and normal jeans...but then add sequins and you're a complete smash! :-)
We have lots of authentic 70's & 80's vintage sequins being stocked at Relish this week before we open on Oct 1. Please come visit and shop with us online or at the store that day!

Inspired and Ignited!
After this mini vacation at the Country Living Fair in Columbus, OH, I can say that I'm rested and elated to run back to my workshop, boutique and to serve my beloved customers. Shopping and talking with thousands of other pickers, crafters and fashionistas ignited my spirit. Likewise, I got to help my sister with her booth at the event, which was a lot of girly fun.
Here are two pics from the event: 1). I fell in love with these hand embroidered Chuck Taylor tennis shoes and 2). at the event I got a chance to wear my Certified Junkaholic Shirt and vintage TuTu over jeans with cowboy boots. (Yes - this look is very in style in the Midwest. I had tons of people ask to buy the tutu right off me :-)
Also, I can't wait to show you all of the items I'm making and that I purchased for Relish!
We all need some type of break to ignite the creativity that is within us. So, I hope you receive an opportunity to stop, step back and become inspired in the near future.

So, stay tuned for NEW items that we'll be carrying online and at Relish from this trip! I'll post pics from the road.
I'm SO super excited about this pickin' trip and mini vacation...I haven't had a break for over four months!
Do you need a break? If so, I highly recommend you ponder on taking one - resourcefully:-)

Be who you are

"Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don't matter, and those who matter don't mind." ~ Dr. Seuss
This positive and mature thinking goes right along with being resourceful. Sometimes being resourceful requires you to be who you are.
Have you ever found yourself feeling small, given you couldn't afford the clothing, car or home furnishings that your friend has? I know I have. Yet now, over my many years of experience, I have learned that it means nothing to have the finer things, unless you value having them. Which means - to have and truly enjoy something of high value, one needs to save or budget for it. When we do - we truly value and love what WE worked for and what WE are wearing, etc. As a result, we don't feel insecure when someone shows off their latest purchase and we can likewise be elated for a friend's new acquisition.
In short, when we are who we are - it's all good.
As for me, I'm a simple lady on a budget who loves many things, not limited to: vintage, fashion, sewing, crafting, entertaining and decorating - all while living resourcefully:-)
Here's a pic of actress, Amy Smart, from the Scrubs show out in Hollywood recently with her $20 clutch from Target! Gotta love her for being who she is:-)
Go be who you are today!

Sporting Vintage

Side note:
- I lack interest in sports. I love the parties - yet don't seem to have the attention for the games. However, when lovely people who I adore extend an invitation to an event, party or game - I'm all in! At the same time, I never know how to dress for team color sporting events, given I rarely go. (Also, I'd feel naked without wearing something ruffled, embellished or vintage:-)

Skirt: Thrifted from pickin' at an estate sell
Top: American Eagle Outfitters
Belt: Vintage 80's
Necklace: 1960's vintage yellow choker
Boots: From my 80's vintage boot collection ("I was country, when country wasn't cool":-)
Cuff: Upcycled license plate cuff that we make and sell at Relish for only $14 each!
The best part: I had a really great time at the game. I even watched it:) Go Rays!

Resting & Replenishing at Relish!

It's been a fun and amazing four months at Relish. I loved meeting new people and friends. At the same time, September on Anna Maria Island moves at a slower pace, so I have decided to mimic some other island businesses and close for a short while to rest and replenish.
What we're up to:
As you see in the photo to the right, I have some Relish team members that often help me behind the scenes stock our large inventory of popular vintage, upcycled, recycled, reclaimed and repurposed goods. This is a picture of Brenna helping me save some vintage dresses by resewing the bodice and hem lines:-) So, we'll be resting a bit, while also continuing to work hard to restock for fall.
I hope to see some of you October 1st! And feel free to check back to this blog for updates on what we're working on and what will be in store at Relish in October!
Thank you to everyone who has shopped, donated and helped Relish. I adore and value all of you.
Dedicated to you relishing in resourcefulness,
Rhonda G.
P.S. We only have a few spaces left for the Workshop on October 10th. Click here for the info to grab a spot!
P.S.S. I invite you to shop online in September at our website: www.ReallyRelish.com!
P.S.S.S. If you need something specific as a gift or outfit from Relish during September, feel free to email me at ReallyRelish@yahoo.com. I often open the store for private shopping:-)

Down time...
My back is out tonight. Not sure why:-( I stood up - and then BAM = couldn't walk! So, I have some literal down time tonight. (Not as much fun as it sounds. I like to work at the store). So, I am therefore using this time to approve Phase 1 of the NEW http://www.reallyrelish.com/. It's unnerving for sure. Please take a look and feel free to share your comments with me online via this blog or privately via email. Any of you who know me personally are well aware that I highly value constructive criticism (in a positive way:-) So bring it on!
Thanks to EVERYONE who has shopped at Relish on Anna Maria Island and our online stores so far. Please know I cherish and pray for all of you.
Dedicated to you relishing in resourcefulness,
Rhonda G.
P.S. I'm now back to blogging, tweeting, posting videos and everything else to help empower others to relish in thoughtfulness and resourcefulness. I can't wait for tomorrow!
